Everything else on this site is a county average. This is not: it draws the actual USDA soil map units around a point, the same polygons a soil scientist mapped in the field, typically a few acres each. Two houses on one street can sit in different units — and here you can see it.

A ZIP code starts you at its centre point, which is a rough guide only. For your own parcel, enter coordinates — right-click a point in any mapping app and it will give you latitude and longitude.

How to read it

Each polygon is one map unit with its own name, drainage class, shrink-swell and water table depth. Click one to see its values. The colours follow the same four bands as the rest of the site, and the buttons switch which value the colour represents — that switch is the interesting part, because a unit can be the wettest one on screen and the least expansive at the same time.

The boundary you can see, and the one you cannot

Where two units meet, the ground genuinely changes. That line is why your neighbour's basement is dry and yours is not, and it is invisible from the street. What the map cannot show is how the previous owner graded the lot or where the downspouts go, and those still dominate. Soil sets the odds; construction settles the bet.
